Mulwala 5.1, 10.4, 14.6, 16.6 (102)
Numurkah lifted when it mattered most to defeat Mulwala at the weekend and secure a Murray Football League double chance.
The Blues trailed at every change at Numurkah Showgrounds, but booted 8.6 to 2.0 in the final stanza to complete a 32-point victory and set up a tantalising fortnight of football.
Jye Warren, Beau McKeown and Brad Dobson's troops will now likely face Echuca United two weeks in a row, with the second for a place in the penultimate weekend of the season.
"I was definitely impressed with how the boys went in that last quarter," Warren said.
"There was a point there where they were 17 odd points up and we were getting a bit worried, but to the boys' credit they really stood up, especially the younger ones.
"It was one of the best wins I've been involved in at Numurkah.
"We've had a lot of injuries over the last month, so it's good to be getting some continuity in who we put out on the field.
"It was a must-win game, we get a second chance now which was our goal at the start of the year and it gives us that bit of breathing space.
"It looks like we'll probably play Echuca in Echuca two weeks in a row. We certainly won't be resting anyone, it's still an important game that we want to win."
Nathan Hicks (six goals) led the way in attack for the home side, with Michael Herlihy (five), Josh Hoffmann (four) and Ben Gunning (four) also starring.
"We've probably struggled in that regard in terms of our spread of goal-kickers," Warren said.
"Hicksy has been the main focal point for a few years, so it's important for our mids to be pushing forward to kick goals.
"Ben Gunning was incredible, he was on fire and back to his old self.
"It probably started in our backline, we only let them kick (six) goals after half-time, that's where the game probably turned.
"It was a cracking game and probably one of the best I've been involved in."
Jarrod Holmes was also outstanding for the Blues, while Josh Hammond, Harry Crossley and Glenn Dominick battled hard for the Lions.
