The captain was shamed into playing, after last week announcing the event and immediately following that up with "I have to work".
He is lucky he did because it was a profitable day for him, but more about that later.
Rhonda Eberle sponsored the day which followed the Halloween theme, with golfers being greeted by assorted suitably scary creatures.
Clearly many people have been desperate to escape Dan's disaster when you get such a good turn-out for a par event, even though I personally can't see the difference.
If you are having a good day you will have a good score with par as well, and maybe even more so because one really bad hole won't destroy your whole day.
Simon Doherty had the best score of the day, +1, in winning A-grade.
He is reasonably consistent in his form, but he will have a shot less to play with next time he hits his home course.
The B-grade winner was Tony Borrelli who finished square, however, he did have to survive a three-way countback with Jeff Newham and Greg Hall.
Ball competition winners were Bill Johnson and James Campbell who also finished square and that was also on a countback from Jeff Newham and Greg Hall.
Greg was more than compensated though by winning the chook shed challenge which had jackpotted from last week.
His score on the four holes was 2.
Nearest the pins were won by Bill Johnson on the ninth and Bill Bray on the jackpot 12th.
Last Thursday's twilight competition was won by Phil Barca with a good round of 43-8.5-34.5.
He had a couple of shots up his sleeve from the runner-up Bill Bray who scored 42-5-37.
Bill also took the jackpot for nearest the pin on the ninth and won least putts with 16.
The two point cut was 41.5This Saturday's event is stableford.
The summer four-ball will commence on Saturday, November 21, so begin organising your partners for that.
