The Goulburn Valley Suns’ under-18s put in their performance of the season on Saturday, thrashing Dandenong Thunder 5-1 at McEwen Reserve.
The side had to wait a while for a breakthrough, but once Reza Shirzadi opened the scoring on 40 minutes, the goals well and truly flowed, with the side’s five goals scored within a 30-minute window.
After Shirzadi’s opener, Stefan Pigatto made it 2-0 just three minutes later, an advantage the Suns would take to half-time.
Cress Ndikumana struck just before the hour for 3-0 and added a fourth soon after, before Mohamed Ahmed completed the damage on 70 minutes.
Jaden Taberner had pulled a goal back for the Thunder in the 67th minute, but it proved just a consolation as the Suns claimed their fourth win of the year and ended the round 13th on the ladder in the 18-team competition.
●Another dynamic performance from the Kuol brothers helped the Suns’ under-16s record a thumping 5-0 win against the Thunder.
Star Brandon Giaccherini gave the side the lead inside six minutes, but the second half belonged to Garang and Teng Kuol, who scored two goals each inside an eight-minute patch to quickly turn a 1-0 lead into a 5-0 advantage.
It was the second straight win for the under-16 Suns and the third in four outings, to move into eighth on the ladder.
The goal-scoring trio all continued fantastic campaigns; Giaccherini has 22 goals in 14 games, Teng Kuol has 13 in 14, while Garang Kuol has 11 in 14.
●The under-15s were not as lucky, taken down 3-1 against the Thunder.
The Thunder found goals through Arion Sulemani, Adrian Mefaili and Noah Richardson, before Andrew Robinson pulled one back in the second half for the Suns.
●The under-14s also had a tough day at the office, falling 8-0.
