Avenel bowled over by funding

Avenel Bowling Club has received more than $9000 in grant funding from Vichealth and Strathbogie Shire Council.

The $4981 grant from VicHealth will be used to purchase new sets of club bowls for new and existing members.

The bowls will also to be used in the VicHealth This Girl Can program, which Avenel Bowling Club has become involved with in an effort to attract more women to the sport.

Club president David Furletti said the club wanted to support all women to get active and embrace a healthy lifestyle, no matter their age or ability.

“I encourage local women and girls to get involved. We will be holding the program in November; more details to come.”

The $4294 grant from Strathbogie Shire Council was part of the community grants program and will be used to replace the ditch banks around the bowling green.

“The club would like to thank the council for their commitment to local sporting clubs and making facilities more attractive for people to become active and healthy,” Mr Furletti said.

“In particular I would like to thank Georgina Betts and Deb Ellis from the council, for their assistance in formulating the grant application.”
