With the Bulldogs desperate to keep sixth spot and with several clubs, including Avenel, nipping at its heels to leapfrog into the six, the outcome of the round 14 match had huge ramifications for their respective seasons.
But in a disappointing result for Jacinta Jamison and her charges, the Swans lapsed in concentration in the second term (6-16), ultimately determining the final score.
Sitting 10th on the ladder ahead of round 15 and two wins outside the top six, the Swans have three final matches to show what they can do.
And while one of those is against top two side Dookie United, the other two are against the lowly Violet Town, with the door remaining ever so slightly ajar for Avenel’s September aspirations.
●In Avenel’s other results, B-grade lost its match against the Bulldogs 56-26, while C-grade also suffered a loss, with the final deficit 14 goals.
In junior results, Avenel’s under-17s could not get on top of a strong Bulldogs outfit, and were comfortably beaten by 26 goals, under-15s suffered a similar 25-goal defeat, while the under-13s won the only match of the day for the Swans, beating Merrigum 31-8.
