Rod Heath wasn’t sure what was going on when he heard a loud crack at his Progress St home at 7 pm on December 11.
After having a look around, Rod and his neighbours discovered the noise was the result of a 50 m gum tree falling in Goulburn Park.
Rod called Mitchell Shire Council, who was on the scene the next morning to begin the clean-up.
“It was all pretty exciting when it happened, but it could have ended in tragedy,” Rod said.
“My wife and I walk the dogs there regularly, so it’s a lucky we weren’t out at that time.
“And it fell near a picnic table at the park which could have had a family sitting there.”
The area near the tree remains cordoned off until the large trunk of the tree is removed.
