German film company ARTE is shooting a documentary on Australian silo art, which will feature the development of the Colbinabbin Silo Art Trail Project.
A representative from the company visited Colbinabbin, between Heathcote and Rochester, last week and shooting is expected to run across five days in late March.
Artist Tim Bowtell, from Benalla, will begin painting the six silos in Colbinabbin from Monday, March 2, which will take about eight to 10 weeks.
Silo project lead Sadie Vale said she anticipated the art would increase tourism in the town and support local businesses.
“We're really hoping it will benefit the town and people will have a nice experience coming to Colbinabbin to view the artwork and find out a bit about the history of Colbinabbin,” she said.
The Rushworth & District Community Bank recently provided the Colbinabbin Silo Art Trail Project with $21 000, after an application was submitted in October to assist in the completion of the project.
Work on the viewing platform is currently under way, with local community members all playing their part.
“We had a two-day open day at the hall for the community to come and scan photos for the interpretive boards for the viewing area, so that created a lot of interest,” Ms Vale said.
The viewing boards, by McIntosh Signs, will depict the history of Colbinabbin, emphasising a sense of community in the town.
De Groot Roofing has prepared the silos for the painting, with the artwork's design remaining a surprise until it is revealed in real-time.
The opening date for the finished work has been booked for Sunday, June 14 at 11 am, and State Member for Yan Yean Danielle Green will be in attendance to represent the Pick My Project community grant initiative. The Colbinabbin silo project received more than $100 000 from the initiative.
On the opening weekend of the Colbinabbin silo art, the Colbinabbin & District Historical Society will open the hall for people to browse the town's history.
