On Tuesday, there was social bowls.
The 60 and over group was at Rochester on Wednesday, November 13 with only one three-game winner.
Winners of the Bill Jackson Shield was the Rich River team of Max Kerr (s), G. Clarence, P. Wallace and J. Landley.
Runners-up were the Moama team of B. Barnaby, B. Hill, K. McDonald and J. Ryan — five in the yardstick.
Wednesday, November 20 is at Tongala with a 10am start.
The Ladies Championship event has advanced to the semi-finals which must be played by December 1.
J. Kneebone will play H. Curnick and L. Bond will play V. Gledhill.
The ladies 100 Up list is up and entries close January 4.
The ladies 21 Up draw is up and the first round is to be played by November 22.
There is no ladies pennant for the next two weeks.
C Grade has advanced to the semi-finals which must be played by November 24.
B. Smolenaars will play J. Pentelow and T. Scott will play A. Benson.
In the B Grade Championship, play has advanced to the semi-finals which must be played by December 1.
H. Moon will play L. Milgate and D. Hocking will play T. Scott.
The Men’s Singles Championship is still progressing.
On Thursday, November 14, Rochester ran a men’s Star Fours tournament which was sponsored by Tobin Brothers Funerals Echuca.
The winners with four game wins were the team of J. Dinsdale, S. Cunnington, L. White and B. Cook.
Runners-up with three wins, +19 shots were S. Barker, L. Saunderson, R. Wastel and R. Bunning.
We had no men’s pennant this week but had the Jack Baker Drawn Fours on November 16.
Eight teams played three games of eight ends.
Two teams were equal runners-up with two wins and six shots up.
They were K. McGreevy, A. Benson, K. Hall and N. Christie alongside G. Wiffen, T. Scott, K. Burrow and J. Pentelow.
Winners of the day were B. Major, D. Gillies, M. Macraild and P. Hampson.
The club is having a Christmas dinner on December 6 at the clubhouse.
Drinks at 6.30pm and dinner at 7pm with music performed by Born and Bred.
There is a list for names in the foyer.
Rochester members please note that any matches, mens or ladies should not start before 10am unless the greens keeper is informed.
It’s always a good idea to note your intentions to play matches in the book in the office.
Friday night tea is on each week and members are reminded to put their names on the sheet in the foyer.
Anyone wishing to make a booking for the hire of the clubrooms and/or bar for a function should do this through functions manager and licensee Kevin Dobson.
There is a working bee on Wednesday, November 20 at the club starting around 9am for about an hour.
Bring a wheelbarrow and shovel.
If anyone wants the cores, bring a trailer on Monday at 7am for about an hour — just whoever is available.
Lockington
The women held a successful Invitation Fours tournament last Wednesday attracting 80 bowlers from City of Echuca, Deniliquin, Moama, Rochester, Tongala, Elmore, Rich River, Calivil along with local members.
Ladies president Kath Palmer thanked all bowlers for their entries and Palmer also thanked the Shire of for supporting the event.Campaspe
Cr Leanne Pentreath attended and assisted with the presentations to the winners and runners-up.
The competition was held under a points system and shots up.
The winning rink hailed from Rich River/Moama comprising Sandra Harvey, Wilma Williams, Deana Hogan and Rose Wheeler (s) with 83 points.
Second place went to the team of Lou Dean, Belinda Chong, Jess Dehne and Roma Opie (s) 82 points from City of Echuca.
Meanwhile Jill Young, Chris Egan, Rhonda Gallagher and Michelle Cunnington (s) also from City of Echuca, managed 79 points for third place.
Several prize winners in the special competition included Joan Moss, Cher Brein, Marie Malone, Michelle Cunnington, Yvonne Smolenaars, Deana Hogan and Wilma Williams.
The club championships are underway with several games played on the weekend.
Bill Musgrove defeated Dave Thomas, Ken Main def. Andrew Harris, Russell Shawcross def. Owen McPhee and Phillip Cunnington def. Neil Haines to book a semi-final spot.
In the women’s club championship Annette Brereton won a thriller against Leanne McInnes.
The Friday evening barbecue and practice was well attended with Phil Collins being the happy recipient of the members lucky draw.
There was no pennant competition due to the Victorian Open championship held in the Shepparton region.
The women will not play this week, with weekend pennant resuming on Saturday.
Several CVBD bowlers are playing in the Vic Open with promising results so far.
The mixed pairs sectional winners included M. and W. Stephenson, K. and R. Wastell, J. Fairchild, T. Cantwell, L. Roney - D Drummond, M & R Young, L Snell - T Hawley, J & K Tinning, D. Milner/M.A. Spizer, O. and D. Cartwright, L. Beattie, D. White, S. Beach, T. Lester and P. Schram/P Thorn.
Knockout winners will play on Wednesday November 20 at Shepparton Park.
60 and Over
The Campaspe and District 60 and over Valley group held their Wednesday weekly bowls at the Rochester bowls Club last week.Bowls
A total of 28 teams, consisting of 112 bowlers competed for the Bill Jackson Shield and a chook.
The winning team was from Rich River, who were the only three-game winners, which meant they didn’t need to compete for the roll off to the kitty.
They were John Landley, Paul Wallace, George Clarence and Max Kerr (skipper).
They received the Bill Jackson Shield from Stan Limbrick, senior vice-president of the 60 and over group, as president Eddie Smith was unavailable.
Two teams finished the day with two-and-a-half wins meaning they then rolled off to within the yard stick for second place.
The team from Moama including John Ryan, Ken McDonald, Brian Hill and Barry Barbary (skipper) managed to grab second place with five shots near the kitty.
Members of both teams received a chook each.
Next Wednesday 60 and over is at Tongala with 10 am start, not 11am.
Please note the 10am start as the forecast is suggesting it will be hot.
This start time will continue from Wednesday instead of the first week of December.
