Doors reopen at Rochester Salvation Army Thrift Shop

By Alex Gretgrix

AFTER 18 weeks of closure, the Rochester Salvation Army Thrift Shop is ready to see your smiling faces — behind masks of course.

The team has been working hard since reopening last week to ensure the shop is running as smoothly as possible during trying times.

“Even though we have had made some changes, we're glad to be back,” supervisor Lilian Smeaton said.

“Some of us older ladies have been working out the back to make sure we're always safe from the virus.”

While there are six staff members on, the shop is open for reduced days and hours.

“It is a bit difficult with less staff than we usually would have, but the team is doing a wonderful job considering,” Ms Smeaton said.

She said the store was still accepting donations.

“We are able to take them, but we need to leave the bags out the back for 72 hours before putting the items on display,” she said.

“This ensures they're free of the virus and we can keep everyone safe.”

The team also close the doors for an hour in the middle of the day to clean the shop thoroughly.

The Salvation Army Thrift Shop is open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday each week from 10.30am until 2.30pm.

The shop is closed for an our from noon for lunch.

The store is located at the corner of Elizabeth and Ramsay streets in Rochester.
