The team earned their second win in the individual/group category, having taken out the award last year as well.
This year’s awards were focused on food and waste management, to coincide with council’s Give a Scrap program.
Community House’s Food Share program, which focuses on reducing the amount of food waste going to landfill, encourages residents to think more about where their unwanted products go.
Co-ordinator Amanda Logie said it was great to see the Rochester community getting on board and doing their bit for the environment.
“I’m quite passionate about recycling and reducing our impact on the environment. We’ve been doing different programs for a couple years now,” she said.
“The best part is knowing that we’re making a difference and helping educate people on recycling.”
Amanda said the win was a timely bit of good news after a tough couple of weeks for the organisation.
“We were all feeling a little bit down about our break-in the other weekend so it was really nice to be recognised for all the hard work that we do,” she said.
