Director Eric Nash said the gallery provided an important service to the community.
“At Benalla Art Gallery we pride ourselves on delivering something for everyone in the community, and one of the most important services we deliver is a dynamic range of activities to brighten the lives of young Benalla families,” Mr Nash said.
The workshops will be held in the second and third weeks of January, and activities range from cyanotype printmaking with local artist Maggie Hollins, to a stencil street-art activity, and painting “en plein air” (outdoors) beside Lake Benalla.
A particular highlight of the holiday program is the staging of the annual National Gallery of Victoria Kids on Tour program on Thursday, January 20, from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
The free program, developed by the NGV, is a series of drop-in, self-directed art activities for children, teenagers and families.
This year’s theme is “Art for the Whole Family” and activities and games are designed to do together or individually.
Kids can discover noisy birds and collect “maypal” (shellfish) from Arnhem Land.
Teens can “style a look” or learn about night-time photography using a smartphone. Or there is paper jewellery to make with images of gold, diamonds and pearls.
NGV Kids on Tour coincides with the NGV Kids Summer Festival, held from January 15 to 23.
