The sad passing away on Sunday, August 7 of Corowa resident Ida Mensforth was mentioned at Federation Council’s monthly August meeting on Monday.
Ida, aged 86 years, passed away peacefully at home. “Ida was a fantastic community person and most recently had strong links to council, being a great contributor to the Corowa Aquatic Centre project,” Mayor Pat Bourke advised in his Mayoral Minute.
“Ida was present at the official opening and assisted in cutting the ribbon, was very proud of the new pool and was a regular user.”
She was a founding member of the Ageing Well Committee for Federation Council.
“Ida has been an incredible advocate over many years for ageing residents in the Federation Council area,” Mayor Bourke advised.
“I pass on the sincere deepest sympathies of council to the family of Ida.”
Other councillors expressed their sadness and said that Ida would be sorely missed. Cr Gail Law said: “Ida was a founding member of the Ageing Well Committee.” Cr Sally Hughes said: “Ida was a very well respected member of CWA.”
Acting mayor Shaun Whitechurch said that Ida was a “passionate member of the aquatic centre, a regular user and attended all meetings”.
Mayor Bourke was an apology from Monday’s meeting following the sad passing of his mother Josephine 'Anne' Bourke of Urana on Saturday.
