The Lost Dogs Home is reducing its adoption fees for a week due to a higher than normal volume of dogs at the shelter.
The lower fees came into effect on Friday, August 12, and families are welcome to drop in to the North Melbourne or Cranbourne adoption centres to meet a new furry friend. Appointments are no longer necessary.
The home’s spokesperson Suzana Talevski said multiple factors contributed to more dogs being available for adoption this winter, with the shelter now at full capacity.
‘’It appears it’s a combination of the winter chill keeping people away, the rising cost of living and the owners no longer having the time to care for their animals. We currently have more than 50 dogs ready for adoption, with more arriving every day,’’ she said.
The home’s ambassador and Channel 7 personality Sharnelle Vella encouraged anyone looking to for a new family member to consider adopting a shelter pet.
“I'm proud to support the dogs' home in their campaign to help empty their shelter,’’ she said.
