In its 26th year, the GVCO is moving to an afternoon format for its June 18 concert, sub-titled The Birds.
GVCO committee of management president Helen Rankin said the orchestra members were more than thrilled to get back on the stage.
‘’It’s just wonderful to think we can get back to what we love doing for the community through providing music for audiences’ well-being and happiness at an affordable price,’’ she said.
“We’re really excited — we had a great rehearsal and the orchestra was sounding excellent, during COVID we thought we would’ve slipped but it has been impressive how quickly people have picked it back up.”
Despite two years of disarray for the orchestra, Ms Rankin said the group had encountered some stark changes, moving the rehearsal space to St Augustine’s hall after the sale of the Maude St, Shepparton, church.
The concert was the result of months of rehearsals, led by music director Steven Sargant.
The concert will feature two performances of works commissioned by the orchestra and composed by members Wade Gregory and Eric Andersen, along with a collection of five Ukrainian folk songs in support of Ukraine and its people.
Ms Rankin said the concert showcases talents of the broader community, with a feature from Shepparton choir 36 Degrees South.
“It’s a close-knit group who enjoy playing music together, we’re full of enthusiasm and positivity for what’s to come,” she said.
The concert is on at Riverlink Eastbank Centre in Shepparton on June 18 from 2pm. Tickets are available via https://riverlinksvenues.com.au/whats-on/event-details/!/calendar/event/gvco-annual-concert-2022
