After a two-year hiatus, the Goulburn Murray Local Learning and Employment Network and Greater Shepparton City Council have joined forces to bring Careers Day Out back to the region.
Across Wednesday, May 18, and Thursday, May 19, the event will take over the Wodonga TAFE premises on Wanganui Rd in hosting more than 2500 people.
From past students to parents looking to re-enter the workforce, those looking at a career change or simply wanting to up-skill, the event caters to all interests.
GMLLEN executive officer Rebecca Costa-Lowe said this year’s event was focused on engagement and interaction.
“We are doing things differently and offering curated hubs where students and visitors can get involved in a hands-on workshop, demonstration or talk to connect with local businesses and explore the variety of job opportunities,” she said.
Hubs at the event cover a range of fields, with industry experts giving the low-down and answering questions about life in the job.
The expo includes hubs in the arts and creative field, health to be presented by GV Health, hospitality by The Sebel and Greenhams, a fitness and wellness hub, and another on build, construction and women in trades.
There will also be a think tank hub, in which local businesses, banks and universities will provide insight on good study habits, scholarship sessions and careers in the sectors to attendees.
Exhibitors include representatives from emergency services, social work and family care, transportation, warehouse and logistics, technology and innovation, industry associations, local industry, employers, employment and support agencies.
“We want to provide a platform to help spark ideas, inspiration and excitement for students, parents and job-seekers after a couple of challenging years,” council business development co-ordinator Jenna Hearn said.
The free public session runs from 3pm to 5:30pm on Wednesday, May 18, at Wodonga TAFE, 145 Wanganui Rd, Shepparton, previously known as DECA. Register at www.careersdayout.com.au
