The annual “shave day” supports the Peter Copulos Cancer and Wellness Centre at Goulburn Valley Health and has raised almost $30,000 since it began in 2014.
Organiser Gavan Pritchett encouraged Lifestyle Shepparton homeowners to dig deep and support the day, because all funds raised were matched by the Lifestyle Communities Foundation.
But Mr Pritchett said the event was more important than the money, with the shave raising much-needed awareness of prostate cancer.
“When we started there were fundraisers for The Heart Foundation and for Pink Ribbon, but not much focusing on prostate cancer,” he said.
“We decided to start our own initiative where we could decide where the funding would go. Everything goes to GV Health to help locals battling prostate cancer.”
Mr Pritchett said fundraising had been difficult during the coronavirus pandemic as the usual events could not be held.
“Our raffle is normally a huge event that sees close to 700 tickets sold. It’s one of many of our fundraisers that has been impacted,” he said.
“Like everyone, our ability to fundraise has been reduced significantly. But we’re determined to raise as much as we possibly can.
“The homeowners understand the importance of what we’re doing, and they always get behind it.”
