Williams Rd closed after truck hits power pole

By Liz Mellino

Williams Rd in Shepparton was closed to traffic for a number of hours today after a truck collided with a power pole.

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 11 am to find the truck wedged up against a power pole on the side of the road.

Shepparton Highway Patrol Senior Constable Mathew Farren said the truck hit a transformer attached to the pole which exploded on impact.

“The power pole has actually dislodged, it is leaning forward, so that’s why the powerlines are leaning the way they are,” he said.

“It is going to take a little bit of time to get this road up and running again.”

Sen Const Farren said police were unsure whether the powerlines were alive, with Powercor working to deem the area safe.

The driver remained inside the cabin of the truck while Powercor worked on the lines.

The truck hit a transformer attached to the pole which exploded on impact.

Police, Country Fire Authority personnel and Shepparton Search and Rescue remained on scene for some time.

Williams Rd, between Archer St and Lockwood Rd, was closed to motorists while the incident was cleared.
