Grassfire burns 1.6 hectares in Kialla West

By Ashlea Witoslawski

A fire has burnt about 1.6 hectares of grassland at Moira Park in Kialla West yesterday.

CFA arrived on the scene about 11.30 am after smoke was seen from the Mt Wombat fire lookout near Euroa.

Kialla Fire Brigade incident controller Ian Martin said several CFA units were sent into the Shepparton Regional Park to look for the fire which was difficult due to the thick bushlands.

The fire ground was quickly spotted by helicopter and CFA and Forest Fire Management started fighting the flames.

Mr Martin said the fire is suspected to have started from a lightning strike and burnt only grasses and a few fallen logs.

“It looks like we're not going to lose any trees which is a good thing,” he said.

The fire was under control by about noon, with forest management members remaining on scene to monitor the situation across the afternoon.
