Prostate specialist nurse Sonia Strachan awarded

By Tara Whitsed

Goulburn Valley Health prostate specialist nurse Sonia Strachan says she is humbled to receive the Chris McPherson Prostate Cancer Nursing Award.

The $5000 scholarship is named after the late Chris McPherson, who founded the Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch in Shepparton.

The lunch went on to fund Ms Strachan’s role and has done so since 2014.

Ms Strachan said Mr McPherson had left an incredible legacy in the lunch and in funding her role.

“This legacy continues through his family by sponsoring this award,” she said.

“I am very grateful.”

Ms Strachan said the award would be used to develop her prostate cancer knowledge by spending a week at the Australian Prostate Centre.

“I’m also hoping to attend an international conference in 2020 to gain an insight into what is happening on the world stage of prostate cancer nursing and also be able to show them what we have achieved in regard to our service in regional Australia.”
