Two men allegedly involved in an assault that left a 23-year-old man in a critical condition have been remanded in custody.

Lausi Asiati, 20, from Murchison, and Jye Turner, 21, from Shepparton, appeared in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court yesterday relating to an assault that occurred on Sunday morning about 4am.

Police were called to the incident on the corner of Wyndham and Fryers streets in Shepparton where a Reservoir man, 23, had been attacked.

The man suffered head injuries and was taken to a Melbourne hospital in a critical but stable condition, where he remains.

Turner self-represented in court after being unable to obtain a lawyer for the hearing.

Magistrate David Farram remanded Turner to appear with Asiati on December 9.
