The saying ‘life is about the journey, not about the destination’ is the key theme for Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre's new art exhibition.

Vessels and Voyages takes visitors on a journey experienced by Shepparton Textile Artists Inc members.
The 2D and 3D works delve into a range of quirky, emotional, funny, inspiring and heartfelt journeys experienced by the local artists.
Shepparton artist Kerry Handwerk said the group participated in Bendigo artist Pam Hovel's Felted Vessels workshop which initially inspired the collection of works.
“The three-day workshop taught us a range of skills and techniques to make these very detailed 3D felt vessels which we decided needed to be put on show,” Ms Handwerk said.
“We then put the call out to our members for 2D works representing voyages or vessels.
“Often you have to read the explanation to understand the artist's voyage because some of them don’t depict a typical physical journey.”
Members have creatively used a range of materials to explain and connect their journey through the artwork.
One artist used stitch work to explain a family’s migration to Australia, while natural seed pods collected from across Australia were used to explain the development of the environment.
Curator Debbie Lynch said the centre was hoping to have a new exhibition on display every six to eight weeks.
“There’s not a lot of space to display local artwork so this is something we are providing for local artists and for the Greater Shepparton region,” Ms Lynch said.
“There’s a lot of talented people in the area so we are really wanting to encourage our artists and give the community and tourists access to incredible works.
“Often these artworks make really beautiful presents for people so if you want an unusual gift or something a little bit different people can come here.”
The exhibition is free to view and is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm until Friday, December 13 at Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre, 23 Alexandra St, Mooroopna.
