Shepparton Food Share volunteers took time out this week to help raise funds for The Banksia Project.

The mental health charity and AHM health insurance launched the #NotTober campaign, which encourages volunteers to take time for themselves, switch off and stop doing stuff for charity.
AHM senior executive Jan O’Keefe said the campaign was fundraising at its simplest.
“All we’re asking is for Australians to take time out for themselves, share a photo, and we’ll donate $10 to The Banksia Project to support vital mental wellbeing initiatives,” Ms O’Keefe said.
“It’s a classic win-win — participants get to do good and feel good all at once."
Mooroopna’s Greg Douglas volunteers up to 20 hours a week for Shepparton Food Share.
He said it was important for him to have something positive to do after he retired.
“I love it, it’s one of the only places I have worked that I enjoy coming in every day,” Mr Douglas said.
He said volunteering had opened his eyes to the Greater Shepparton community.
“Unless people are in that situation, they don’t see it — now I see people in that situation every day,” Mr Douglas said.
The Banksia Project founder Bryan Coleman said the charity focused on early intervention in men’s mental health.
“This partnership with AHM is a fantastic way for everyone to do some good with a simple selfie,” he said.
“We are looking forward to seeing Australia rally behind us to raise much-needed funds to support mental health and wellness.”
The campaign asks Australians to take a moment to themselves, whether it be sitting on a beach, eating a great meal, just hanging out with friends or watching TV on the couch.
