Hosted by RiverConnect, the community day covered the flora and fauna of the area and the management actions by Greater Shepparton City Council, Parks Victoria, RiverConnect and Shepparton-Mooroopna Landcare Group.
The families were treated to a talk by a bird expert and plant expert, an also inspected nesting boxes.
RiverConnect project officer Meg Pethybridge said everyone had a good day.
“We've be monitoring nesting boxes and showed them what will come and live in them,” she said.
“There's wattles at this site so we're fairly likely to see sugar gliders and squirrel gliders.
“For quite a long time this area was a private property where there was horses and stock so we've taught them the history of the bush reserve.
“Another thing we discussed is the environmental features of the area — because it floods, there's different erosion running through,'' Miss Pethybridge said.
“Because there's different plants in the gullies, we jumped around to check those out.”
