Lions helping fight childhood cancer

The Lions Club of Mooroopna is participating in The Lions Australian Grocery Grab to raise funds for childhood cancer research.

The Lions Cord Blood Foundation supplies The Fight Cancer Foundation with storage of cord blood units.

“Formerly known as The Bone Marrow Donor Institute, the foundation collects cord blood units from the umbilical cord of newborns. This cord was previously discarded,” Mooroopna club member Colin Smith said.

He said the stem cells collected helped children battling leukaemia.

The Lions Australian Grocery Grab raffle tickets are on sale from Woolworths in Archer St, Shepparton, with the winner to be drawn October 5.

Mr Smith said 50 per cent of the money raised would be donated back to the community.
