Seven members from the brigade will take part in the annual Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb on September 7, raising funds and awareness for depression, post-traumatic stress injury and suicide.
For four of the members it will be their third time doing the climb, while for the remaining three it will be their first time taking part.
Mooroopna CFA captain Steven Johnson said the group was currently training twice a week to ensure all members were ready to go on the day.
"We've been going over to Quest Apartments and running up their three flights of stairs and doing it 10 times," he said.
"We do that twice a week in our gear."
The Mooroopna members will be part of 600 firefighters climbing the 28 floors of Crown Metropol Hotel wearing 25kg of turnout gear and breathing apparatus.
While the brigade members are hoping to raise $700,000 for the Emergency Services Foundation, Lifeline and the Black Dog Institute, Mr Johnson said raising awareness of depression, post-traumatic stress injury and suicide among other firefighters was the most important aspect.
"We're doing it for fitness and for depression ... with the trauma that we see, a lot of us go through that sort of stuff — it is a bit of awareness for that," he said.
"It's exciting, especially on the day when you have 600 firefighters all in the one room, it's pretty cool."
