Eighteen students from across various year levels will make the trip to Melbourne on Saturday, September 14 to perform as part of the mass dance group, incorporating 82 schools and 1125 students from across the state.
The Victorian State Schools Spectacular gives students the opportunity to perform to an audience of about 12,000 people at Melbourne Arena and a TV audience later in the year on Network Seven.
As part of the performance, students access hands-on training and mentoring both on stage and behind the scenes.
Guthrie St Primary School's State Schools Spectacular co-ordinator Karen Kelly said the students had been meeting twice a week during lunchtimes to hone their performance.
She said the students were excited for their first dress rehearsal and final regional group rehearsal with assistant choreographer Hara Papoulias yesterday.
“It’s been really good and the students are really excited to see all the costumes and accessories,” Ms Kelly said.
Ms Papoulias enjoyed spending time with the students for a fourth time this year and said it was wonderful to see how well the students had picked up the steps.
She said the Victorian State Schools Spectacular provided a great opportunity for the students to build confidence within themselves, as well as improve their co-ordination.
“We’re always supporting their individuality; the more personalities we get when they’re dancing, the better,” Ms Papoulias said.
Ms Papoulias said the Guthrie St Primary School students had a special role in this year’s show, creating a large globe from umbrellas.
The Victorian State Schools Spectacular is on Saturday, September 14 at 1pm and 6.30pm. The show is three hours long, including an interval.
