Punctuality along the Shepparton rail line reached its highest since November 2016 last month.
According to Public Transport Victoria, 93 per cent of V/Line trains were on time compared to the current year’s average of 86.9 per cent.
It is the first month since August 2017 that 90 per cent of trains or more have been on time.
Reliability was down with five of the 278 scheduled services cancelled compared to none in April.
The Seymour line was also punctual last month with 92.1 per cent of services delivered on time, while reliability achieved 99 per cent.
A PTV spokesperson said the improvements along both lines could be attributed to the new timetable.
‘‘The new V/Line timetable introduced in April has provided more certainty for Shepparton and Seymour passengers as well as introducing more services.
‘‘We’re completing a multi-million-dollar program of sleeper replacement on the track that Shepparton trains use between Seymour and Melbourne, helping keep the line in good condition for trains to run.’’
While work continues, additional time has been factored into some train journeys to provide passengers with a reliable journey.
Some late-night services are being replaced by coaches while the works take place.
