From Thursday, all of regional Victoria including Echuca and Kyabram, will be under stage three restrictions, meaning there are just four reasons to leave your home.
“I can understand the frustration of some people in our region but something needed to be done to try and control the virus,” Cr Weston said.
“It has reached a point where it is a health crisis and that's why (Premier) Daniel Andrews has declared a State of Disaster in Victoria.
“Some parts of regional Victoria have significantly more cases than us but we have seen just how quickly it can spread.
“There are cases in Bendigo, which means it isn't too far away from us.
“We just have to live with the restrictions and come together to beat this disease.”
Cr Weston said it was important the community continued to rally behind local businesses during this tough period.
“We've been through this before and we remain hopeful our local businesses can get through these latest restrictions,” he said.
“It means owners and managers will need to be flexible with how they are delivering their product.
“Our residents were tremendous with the support they showed during the first lockdown and I'm confident they will do that again.”
A number of council-run facilities will be closed in response to the changes, with Echuca War Memorial Aquatic Centre, the Port of Echuca Discovery Centre, sport stadiums, playgrounds, skateparks, outdoor gym equipment and library branches and depots all closed.
Immunisations will continue by appointment only, while appointments can also be made for the animal shelter.
Maternal and child health service has phone consultations available, with restricted face-to-face consultations.
Waste collections and transfer stations will continue to operate as usual.
