KYABRAM District Health Service will start the new year with the commencement of upgrades to its Urgent Care Centre, Acute Ward and Sheridan Aged Care, as part of a major redevelopment program announced last year.

The overhaul will include a brand new Urgent Care Centre, day procedure waiting room upgrade, creation of a central hub for clinical staff and visiting medical officers, modification of the previous midwifery section into a dedicated clinical education and meeting area and some minor amendments to the Renal Dialysis Unit.
Further to the above and concurrently there will also be some building upgrades to Sheridan Aged Care including remodelling the kitchen, dining and lounge areas to support an enhanced home-like environment, complete with a library and beauty salon, the development of a new internal link to the main hospital along with the remaining two double-resident rooms being converted to single rooms with private ensuites.
The new layouts will support enhanced amenities for patients and residents and will provide contemporary design for staff.
The specific area for simulation training will also support clinical students undertaking placement at KDHS with medical and nursing access to modern teaching facilities close to the ward and aged care areas.
An undercover internal link between Sheridan Aged Care and the Acute Ward will allow residents and visitors to make seamless transitions between wards at the site.
Temporary changes to access points to the hospital and aged care facility are expected due to construction works commencing on Monday, January 20.
KDHS client services staff will assist visitors and patients appropriately and signage will be in place, while the site's disabled parking is not expected to be impacted.
“The upgrades are driven by feedback from patients and residents, hence we have listened to their concerns and acted on that,” acute services nurse unit manager Susan Ryan said.
“We will also be splitting the two aged care double rooms into four singles for our residents because this is where they live and it's a priority for those living here.”
“The aim is that services will remain unchanged during the construction period, with KDHS staff able to assist anyone having access issues during the building program,” chief executive Anne McEvoy said.
“This is an exciting time with these plans being in the pipeline for years, so we're pretty happy to see it all start taking shape.”
KDHS announced the infrastructure upgrades at its annual general meeting in November.
The redevelopment is expected to be finished by October.
