Hosted by Goulburn Valley Orchid Club, close to 200 entries were on show with orchids of all shapes, sizes and colours ensuring a pleasing display for members and guests.
Club member Colin Cleak said they were pleased with the quality of entries received, with people from around Victoria entering their orchids.
‘‘The champion orchid was won by one of our members from Beechworth, in fact she got reserve champion as well,’’ he said.
‘‘It is a really nice display of flowers, the quality of flowers this year is quite good.’’
Along with viewing the entries, visitors could also purchase their own orchids, equipment, tools and fertiliser to help them grow the perfect flower at home.
Mr Cleak said the sales area was always popular with visitors, with a company even travelling from South Australia to sell its orchids to the public.
‘‘The public love to come in here and buy flowers and all the things you need to grow orchids, which you can’t buy in Shepparton,’’ Mr Cleak said.
‘‘There are a lot of things that we sell especially for orchids that Bunnings and other places don’t stock.’’
The Goulburn Valley Orchid Club meets on the first Monday of every month, excluding January, at the Kialla Paceway. Membership is $10. For more information, phone club president Chris Ibbotson on 0417923874 or email chris.ibbotson@gmail.com
