This past week the Tocumwal Football and Cricket came together for a fundraising 20/20 cricket match to raise some money for the local brigade.
The match played last Thursday saw money donated by both clubs for every ‘four’ and ‘six’ hit on the night and both sides were desperate for bragging rights with one’s season ending and the other just starting.
The cricketer’s were sent in first and some powerful hitting got them away early.
Rod Meloury (39) and Brandon Meloury (15) led the way with the TCC managing to hit four ‘sixes’ and 12 ‘fours’ in their innings.
The footballers toiled well with the ball with Tim Arklay (2/4) and Mitch Collins-Bye (2/14) both snaring braces from their two overs.
In reply the footballers introduced Collins-Bye (46) to the masses with some lusty hitting.
The recruit who had just scored a century the previous weekend looked well at home on the Toc wicket.
Duane Habich (35) also got the runs flowing as the TFC pounded five ‘sixes’ and nine ‘fours’ in their 20 overs.
TCC were led by skipper James Balcombe with two poles and Brandon Meloury with two as well.
The Winner? Well debate continues to rage over the winner.
Some dubious umpiring decisions and some generosity in calling back the victim of a Diamond Duck let the game become more of a fun event then a do or die clash.
It would be fair to say that neither side feels they lost!
Both squads no doubt enjoyed the fun time had and the money raised will no doubt help the local brigade to continue its great work in protecting the local community.
Cricket Club Premier player Ranji Oliver said the evening went better then expected and that he is looking forward to doing it again next year.
“We had a really good turnout, to the footy club's credit they really supported the event,” he said.
“It was worth doing and we're happy we could contribute to the bushfire victims by donating money for every six that was hit.
“The feedback that we've received has been nothing but positive, we'll definitely look to doing it again next year.”
