Tuning up for Food Festival

If music be the food of love, then this weekend's Fryers St Food Festival has the right recipe.

Four performance stages will be spread throughout the festival precinct from Maude and Fryers streets to the Maude St Mall featuring a troupe of local bands and solo acts.

Festival music programmer Ken Wong from Shepparton music duo Shane and the Wong Brother said he was putting together the "Fryers Fest Megaband" made up of veteran Shepparton musos and guest artists.

“It has been tremendous fun creating events that allow for local musicians, some who haven't played together for a long time, and some who have never played together before, the chance to share their music,” Mr Wong said.

He said the weekend's line-up would also include the newly formed band John Buckworth Express, as well as Kelli Howell with her duo Ms River and Brennan, and the Varied Heads — better known as Quinny and Shane.

Mr Wong said many people would remember Quinny and Shane.

Quinny and Shane aka Chris Quinn and Shane Muir will perform at the Fryers St Food Festival this weekend.

“I reckon they still hold the record for the longest-running continuous Shepparton Sunday gig in history, which lasted for about seven years in the ‘90s,” he said.

Mr Wong said new faces would also appear, including Triple M radio announcer Bill Bradley on drums, and the reformation of ‘80s jam band Cooking With Gas, featuring legendary local guitarist Paul Barrass and others.

Performers on other stages will include Fortessima, Jess and Nick, singer-songwriter Simon Marks, Nicole Anderson, Dan Fenby, Kamali, Beth Caldow and Parmy Dhillon.

The Fryers St Food Festival kicks off tonight with Flavours of The World from 5pm to 9pm in the Maude St Mall. The festival continues tomorrow with stalls along Fryers St offering a huge range of wines and traditional and multicultural food from 5pm to 10pm.
