Bakers take on World Skills challenge at GOTAFE

The sweet smell of dough wafted through the walls of GOTAFE's Shepparton campus today as bread makers went head to head perfecting their buns.

The bread makers were taking part in the Regional World Skills challenge, a competition that tests the skills of apprentices, trainees and students across Australia in a range of different job fields.

Bakers from across Victoria participated in the gruelling challenge in a bid to win a place in the national competition.

Buns, cob loaves, and baguettes were kneaded, raised and cooked to impress the judges.

GOTAFE World Skills co-ordinator Callum Ross said the competition had partnered with  GOTAFE for several years.

“We are very keen to be involved with World Skills as it promotes regional students, regional apprentices and regional businesses,” Mr Ross said.

GOTAFE will host a variety of World Skill challenges throughout September and October including hairdressing and plumbing.

Regional winners will qualify for a place in the national challenge in an attempt to make it to the international competition later next year.

Although GOTAFE hosts the competition, anyone has the ability to participate in the events.
