On Tuesday, August 11, the corrugated iron enclosure, which housed bins for houseboats’ rubbish, was taken apart and removed.
Campaspe Shire Council chief executive Declan Moore said the bin structure was not approved as part of the original planning permit for the Echuca riverfront redevelopment.
“While a retrospective application for approval has been lodged, we have reviewed the placement, use and responsibility for the bins, the poor visual impact and potential safety issues since they became operational,” he said.
“We have decided to remove the structure and the bins and, together with the users of Riverboat Dock, we will determine whether there is an ongoing need for that service, and if so, how it might be better delivered.”
Residents in the area said they were glad to see the “monstrosity” gone and thanked council for listening to their concerns.
