In a letter sent to parents and families, principal Carmel Spry apologised for the confusion.
“Since I last wrote to you there has been an announcement from NSW Health amending the Health Order,” she said.
A NSW spokesperson said: "The government’s intent was to ensure any Victorian or anyone entering NSW from Victoria after the commencement of the orders will be required to self-isolate. The government’s policy was not to be retrospective.”
“This action follows legal advice that the orders are open to an incorrect interpretation.”
Ms Spry said these changes meant teachers were now eligible for a border pass into NSW.
“This will allow us to begin Term 3 for students on Tuesday, July 14 as previously planned,” she said.
“I apologise for the confusion as well as the frustration this has caused.”
When students return, the school will continue to follow hygiene routines, cleaningduring the day, not hold large gatherings and review events that had been planned for Term 3.
Parents and students have also been told they need to apply for permits to cross the border to go to school.
“If travelling from Victoria each student needs a border declaration permit,” she said.
“Parents driving students to school from Victoria will also require a border declaration.I understand from the government that the 50 kilometre restriction has been altered today as some families were unable to access a border pass.”
The school is also seeking interest if it were to bring in a bus to take students over the bridge and reduce the number of parents coming to get their children.
“As a service to our community who reside in Victoria, the school is looking into providing a complimentary shuttle bus service,” Ms Spry said.
“This service would be departing from a central point in Echuca (Christ Church Anglican Echuca) departing at 8am and returning to the same location in the afternoon about 3pm.
“This service is being offered to families who currently do not use bus services. This aims to reduce the need for parents/guardians to commute over the bridge as we are expecting extensive delays."
