And police are appealing for information from the community to help to find them.
Detective Senior Constable Troy Wickham of Echuca Criminal Investigation said thieves broke into his Hare St home through a back window between 11am and 8.30pm on Thursday.
"There are a variety of collections and sovereign coins," he said.
"They are very unique and some date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s."
Police have released images that depict similar coins to the ones stolen in the hope someone may have seen them.
"These coins mean a lot to this man so it would be great to be able to find them for him," Det Snr Constable Wickham said.
Anyone who has information about this burglary or the whereabouts of these coins are urged to contact police on 5483 1500 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
