Tennis decider ‘set’

By Jamie Lowe

The grand final of the Deniliquin Junior Lawn Tennis Club competition is now set, following the final round on Saturday.

In Section One, third placed Marshall Electrical and second placed Kiss My Ace played off against each other.

Both teams were evenly matched with three tie-breakers being played and all other matches very close.

Despite Marshall Electrical defeating Kiss My Ace five sets, 33 games to three sets 32 games, it was not enough to get them second place on the ladder, with Kiss My Ace doing enough to earn a spot in the grand final.

They will face ladder leader Murray Constructions this weekend.

Murray Constructions will head into the decider in dominant form after an eight sets, 40 games to 0 sets 14 games win against Landmark Property and Water.

James Selleck and Lillianne Jansen did their best to win at least one set for Landmark, taking their match against Jemma Smith and Ben Dunmore to a tie-breaker.

Unfortunately for Landmark it was the Murray pair that proved too strong in the end.

The grand final between Murray Constructions and Kiss My Ace will be played at 9am.

The final ladder for the season is as follows:

Murray Constructions 298; Kiss My Ace 215; Marshall Electrical 202; Landmark Property and Water 167.

Red, Orange and Green ball groups had another fantastic morning.

All coaches are impressed with the improvement shown over the season and are looking forward to seeing all budding tennis stars this weekend for the last week of coaching for 2019.

The DJLTC invites everyone to the last round of tennis for the season.

There will be a barbecue afterwards and players are encouraged to stay around and watch the mini tournament between Hay and Deniliquin, organised by Deni’s Rob Wettenhall and Hay’s Stuart Callaghan, starting at 10am.

Both clubs are hoping that this tournament will be the first of many to come.

A thank you is extended to Hay for making the effort to come to Deni for the tournament.
