It outlines a vision for land use and development across the council area.
Mayor Chris Bilkey is encouraging residents to take a look at the draft document, which he said includes exciting opportunities for local communities.
‘‘Due to legislated timelines, council still needs to complete this process over the next few months, despite the current social distancing rules,’’ Cr Bilkey said.
‘‘The plan was to head-out around the council so that we could chat with our communities, but instead we are encouraging you to connect with council and have your say on the draft LSPS via our online engagement platform.’’
The LSPS is an overarching strategic plan that is designed to capture a 20-year vision for the community whilst also forming the first step in streamlining the current planning structure, to allow for a more efficient planning process for applicants to navigate.
‘‘This is one piece of the planning puzzle which will see significant improvements to streamlining development applications, and a heightened level of consistency applied to allow for balanced community outcomes once completed,’’ Cr Bilkey said.
Further council planning, such as a new Local Environment Plan and Development Control Plan will also be completed this year, and will provide the detail on achieving the priorities outlined in the LSPS.
‘‘We have heard our community and we understand our ratepayers and developers have been calling for faster development application approvals and greater consistency for decision making,’’ Cr Bilkey said.
‘‘The LSPS is the first step in achieving this.’’
Residents interested in viewing the draft document and having their say can connect with council via the new online engagement platform — Your Say Murray River — where you can learn, interact and give honest feedback when and where it’s convenient for you.
‘‘This online platform ensures our important work for and with the community can continue at this time, and also provides an opportunity to bring more diverse groups of people into the conversation.’’
The Draft LSPS is available for viewing and comment via council’s website.
