Released more than two weeks ago, the draft report identifies mental health, front line services, trust in government and water reform as priority areas.
It includes 20 recommendations to government about the need for immediate action to help communities who are really battling.
The panel has also identified immediate and long term actions for a positive future in Basin communities.
Direct community feedback and people’s lived experience in the Basin has informed the report.
It is also supported by evidence-based research commissioned by the panel.
Commissioned research shows the opportunities and challenges faced in the Basin and covers: future scenarios for the Basin and various industries; wellbeing and factors associated with differing socio-economic conditions in different communities; modelling of scenarios for the MDB; recreational fishing; and assessments of selected industries.
Panel chair Robbie Sefton thanked the community, industry bodies and interested groups for the contributions and submissions received to date.
‘‘We have received a range of submissions covering each of the topic areas and expressing thoughtful and considered insights into the recommendations,’’ she said.
‘‘This is helping finesse our final report, strengthen our findings and provide broad coverage of the critical social and economic conditions that need to be addressed.
‘‘We want this document to provide a road map for the Federal Government for immediate action that includes short, medium and long term viable solutions for our Basin communities.’’
