Telstra yesterday said issues had been resolved, but this was not the case.
The Pastoral Times spoke to various business operators who said they were still experiencing issues.
Telstra said earlier this week that last Thursday’s outage was expected to be the last, however it was short lived.
Deniliquin has experienced outages and service interruptions constantly this week.
The community, and in particular businesses, are outraged by the inconvenience this has caused in the past few weeks.
There have also been issues with NBN connections which a local businessman said are not being fixed because the NBN does not have enough workforce in this area.
‘‘That’s what I was told by Telstra. What sort of service is that?’’ he asked.
He said the service being provided by Telstra and the NBN to this community in recent times was ‘‘totally inadequate’’ and needs to be seriously addressed.
‘‘I’ve had no NBN service for a number of days; Telstra assured me a technician would be here to fix it on Wednesday, but no-one showed up,’’ he said.
‘‘So without mobile phones or NBN we have had no internet and no phones; not even a landline. I’ve been told the issues will continue until next Tuesday and they cannot get an NBN technician here until next week because they don’t have sufficient workforce in this region.
‘‘How are we supposed to run a business in this environment?’’’
Deniliquin Newsagency and Bookstore owner Mark Ritchie said it has been frustrating for customers and staff.
‘‘People are getting frustrated because they come to pay and can’t use their card,’’ Mr Ritchie said.
‘‘So they either go to the bank to get money out or decide not to make a purchase which is having an impact on trade.
‘‘People are so used to using their cards, it is just second nature now, so you can imagine how irate you might be when trying to make a purchase.’’
A spokesperson from Telstra told the Pastoral Times on Wednesday that this week’s outages were ‘‘not caused by planned maintenance or upgrades’’.
Outages in past weeks have been caused by Telstra’s mobile phone coverage upgrades.
‘‘The issue occurred about 9pm last night (Tuesday) when our Global Operations Centre in Melbourne saw the site lost power,’’ the spokesperson said.
‘‘The issue seems to be that when power was restored, the site didn’t recover as it should have. The technician was sent out from us as it was our site that didn’t recover properly from a power issue.
We’ve fixed that hardware fault and the site is now operating as it should.’’
Despite this assurance, some customers are still having phone issues.
‘‘Telstra might think everything is okay, but it’s not,’’ a disgruntled business owner said.
‘‘They don’t even seem to know whether the service here is working or not.’’
