Students enrolled in hospitality, automotive, construction and primary industry subjects are required to complete work placement to obtain their qualifications.
About 40 students took placement over two weeks in Deniliquin, with all receiving vital experience in their desired industries.
VET coordinator Nicole Jenkins said placement is important for students studying the courses.
‘‘It's a compulsory part of VET subjects, where they must complete a minimum of 70 hours of placement,” she said.
“It gives the students exposure to industry processes and allows them to become more familiar with activities and routines within the workplace.
‘‘Being the second block of placement for the students, I urge them to go to different work places than their previous placement.”
Mrs Jenkins said that it was another successful block of placement, with each business involved praising the efforts of the VET students.
“It was an extremely good response again,” she said.
“Every year we would have about a third of our students offered work, which some of them do take.
“The students love getting out there and getting into work, which some of these students are also already ticking off some of their requirements for apprenticeships.
“The response I've had from the students is that they loved it, with most not expecting to be so hands on with everything.”
One of those students included Brock Thomson, who spent the week with Newman Plumbers.
He spent the week working on plumbing for a new property being built on Wakool Rd.
“I chose plumbing as it seemed like it would be something I was interested in,” he said.
“I've been hands on with everything, doing shovelling, putting pipes up and helping with plumbing work under the house.
“Everyone has been quite helpful too, which has made it easy for me to settle in.”
Fellow student Alex Rose spent his week at Murray Constructions, saying he wanted to see what it was like to work in the construction industry.
“It was a change in what I did last placement,” he said.
“My favourite part has been helping set up for all the concrete, but it's all been enjoyable.
“I like working here and could see myself doing it as a career.”
