Residents and community members are encouraged to nominate individuals or groups who have made an outstanding contribution to the local community.
Mayor Chris Bilkey said the awards provide a great platform to recognise the contributions that many individuals and groups make to the local community every year.
“Australia Day provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge those who have made personal achievements in a range of pursuits including sports, the arts or education,” he said.
“Australia Day is also an opportunity to acknowledge those individuals who volunteer so much of their time to ensure community services, sporting events and other important activities continue to prosper across our council area."
Nominations are currently being accepted for seven award categories:
● Citizen of the Year
● Young Citizen of the Year
● Sportsperson of the Year
● Young Sportsperson of the Year
● Community Event of the Year
● Community Group of the Year
● Arts/Cultural Award (person or group)
Nomination forms are available from council’s customer service centres or via council’s website.
Nominations close Thursday, October 31.
The awards will be presented at the Australia Day ceremonies held across the council on Australia Day January 26, 2020.
“I would encourage people to nominate and get involved. What better way to let people know about their valued contribution to our local area,” Cr Bilkey said.
