Local sharp shooter James Willett has continued his international success this time in Italy.

Fresh from his world cup event successes James has recently competed in two events.  The first was the Nando Rossi Memorial event which was followed by the Green Cup at the Umbriaverde range in Todi.

Willett successfully won the international section of the memorial with an impressive score of 98/100 and 46/50 in the final.

“There were just over 370 competitors in this event,” Willett said.

“I just missed out for the final in the Green Cup after hitting a great 121/125 in the qualifying, so I finished seventh place,” he said.

James is now back home on his own shooting range preparing for his next event.

“I am now in training ahead of next month’s World Cup Final which the best 18 world shooters over two years will compete in.”

Willett, who represented Australia in the Commonwealth Games in 2018 in the double trap finishing sixth in the final, has since been on a new path to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics this time in the trap discipline.

“The competition is very tough, all the athletes around the world are trying to win Olympic quota places for their country throughout the year,” he said.

The 23-year-old has been putting a lot of work into the new trap discipline after the Commonwealth Games which was his last competition in the double trap.

“Since then I have been fully focused on trap this year.”

Willett thanked his local sponsors; Central Murray Credit Union, Hargreaves Secured Investments and Yarrawonga-Cobram Toyota, for their continued support.
