Funding for three big events

By Corowa Free Press

Corowa Festival of Dance, which attracts up to 300 attendees over five days, is one of three special events which will receive event sponsorship from Federation Council.

The dance committee will receive $2,000 and estimates 80% of attendees are visitors to town and some stay as long as 10 days to attend all activities associated with the event.

The event is based at the Corowa Memorial Hall and Corowa RSL Club in October. Federation Council’s deputy mayor Shaun Whitechurch is on the committee and again praised last year’s big event, except for one aspect. “No-one asked me to dance!” the burly councillor said at council’s latest monthly meeting, on August 20, in Urana.

Cr Whitechurch is a main organiser of the Marcus Fraser Golf Tournament each January and also welcomed council sponsorship of $1,100 for the event which attracts some 260 players on both days.

One big name already locked in to speak at the Saturday Sportsman’s/Auction night is 1992 Melbourne Cup winning jockey Greg Hall.

Yarrawonga Mulwala Multisport Festival will receive $3,000 towards its running of the big October event, with over 600 athletes and supporters.

Federation Council will be formally recognized in these events. The total of $6,100 for the three events is from the Federation Council Event Sponsorship Program which has $15,000 in the 2019/20 budget, leaving $8,900 to support other events as they may arise.
