Wright — who played 136 games for North Melbourne and retired last season — is coming back to the Picola District Football League Tigers fresh from the highest level and ready to pass on as much of that wisdom and experience as possible.
“Our development program for fourths and thirds is really good and we want to do so many things with the thirds and hopefully we get that chance,” Wright said.
"I just can't wait to work with the kids, it was definitely part of the reason for coming back to Katty."
But before he can begin moulding the next generation of Katamatite footballer, Wright needs to find a few more pieces of clay to get started.
The Tigers are putting the call out for more thirds footballers to pull on the yellow and black at Katamatite Recreation Reserve.
"I know we're not the only country club struggling for numbers,” Wright said.
"But we're after four or five young kids to come out, the bulk of the list is there, but we certainly need a few numbers to help fill it out."
To facilitate the call-out, the Tigers are prepared to go to great lengths to accommodate new under-17 players — including waiving membership fees, organising transport to games and even helping with equipment if necessary.
"What we're trying to do is really drive our juniors, both the fourths and thirds, but especially the thirds,” Wright said.
"It's not just about development, we really want them to have a great experience and their families come along and enjoy the club.
"Thirds won't have to pay membership, if they're struggling for lifts we can organise to help get them up here.
"We're just as much trying to turn those under-17s into great people as we are trying to turn them into good footballers, so anyone looking for a great club, with a great environment and playing in a friendly league — we can help them out. We've got football and netball for all ages and you don't have to have played before."
Wright will be regularly on board to help out with thirds coaches Trent Steers and Johnathon Andrew throughout the season.
"It's exciting to have a senior footballer taking the reins,” Wright said.
"For me, twice a month I'll be getting to their trainings and helping out and on game days every second week I'll be getting down there and doing what I can to help out."
Wright also said the Tigers could offer an avenue to players who missed the cut for squads at some of the larger clubs in Greater Shepparton, allowing them to develop their football elsewhere for a season before having another crack at making it next year.
