Cobram Harness Racing Club life members and the Harness Racing committee members gathered at the Clydesdale Hotel Katunga on Sunday for the annual life members lunch.
A highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of a life membership to Neville Walsh by the club’s vice-president, Merv Campbell.
Campbell presented a profile of Walsh’s contribution to the club — being elected to Cobram Harness Racing Club committee after he moved to Cobram more than 20 years ago, serving in this capacity for some time.
Walsh was also the club’s voluntary swab steward for 20 years, retiring from the position earlier this year.
Campbell spoke of the outstanding contribution Walsh has made to Cobram harness racing as committee man during his term and as a volunteer at race meetings has been without ‘fuss or favour’, preferring to make his contribution to the club with a minimum of publicity.
He said Walsh’s voluntary contribution included such mundane but necessary tasks as cleaning the swab stall and for numerous years the horse stalls for each race meeting as well as collecting fresh straw from the supplier for the swab stall and was delighted to present him with a well-deserved life membership.
