Mayor Libro Mustica said households in the Moira Shire would have started receiving envelopes containing their passport in the mail this week.
“Passports entitle residents to special offers when they bring a full-fee paying visitor to participating attractions, experiences, accommodation, retail outlets and cafes throughout Moira Shire,” Cr Mustica said.
The passport initiative will run from May through to October to encourage local residents to invite family and friends from outside the region to visit the Moira Shire.
Cr Mustica said as a region offering COVID-safe experiences, the ‘visiting friends and relatives market’ was expected to play a significant role in regional recovery after a year of lockdowns.
“This concept has been successful in other key tourist regions around Australia and we look forward to championing it here in Moira Shire,” he said.
“It is not too late for businesses to sign up and be a part of the Local Tourist Passport.
“Just give our friendly tourism team a call on 5871 9222 and simply give us your details and what you would like to offer and we will add you to the list.”
Local Tourist Passport experiences include:
● Cactus Country — free entry for a local with each paying adult guest;
● Rich Glen — free extra virgin olive oil soap with each $50 spend;
● Numurkah Caravan Park — two nights cabin accommodation for two people at a discounted price;
● Monichino Wines — 10 per cent off wine sales if visiting friend buys a dozen bottles of wine;
● Byramine Homestead — $2.50 farm tour for locals when bringing a guest; and
● PS Cumberoona — ask for their special loyalty card offer.
