But instead, a silent night will take its place.
Due to the cancellation of the annual Carols by Candlelight in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the lead-up to Christmas will look a little bit less festive in the town this year.
Announced via Facebook on Friday, organiser Renee Brooker said the current COVID-19 climate made it unfeasible to host the event.
“The decision was made due to COVID-19 concerns at our last meeting,” she said.
“We were looking at other ways of running it, but the numbers needed to keep track of everyone with tracing and those sorts of thing wasn’t doable.
“We are just too small an organisation.”
Mrs Brooker said all available options were explored in an effort to get the event up and running.
“At the July meeting we still thought we would be able to go ahead with it, but as it came closer with COVID-19 we realised it was going to be too hard,” she said.
“It is usually a wonderful event, we get a lot of families attending from both sides of the bridge as well, which is great to see.
“It would have been my 20th year attending the event, and my second year organising.”
However, they may be a silver lining to this particular cloud.
The committee is looking to host a different event in place of Carols by Candlelight, and Mrs Brooker has a message for the public in regard to a pre-Christmas celebration in Barooga.
“Watch this space.”
