The Bats led from the get-go and built a solid 41-point lead by half-time.
And after only managing two goals in the first half, the Hoppers proved more competitive in the second half with five goals, but the Bats continued their dominance by adding a further nine goals to wrap up a 18.8 (116) to 7.8 (50) victory.
Goorambat coach Sam Gladstone said it had been extremely important to secure the win heading into the 2020 season.
“We’ve been talking a lot about these two games coming up,” Gladstone said.
“Going into next season, we needed to make statement as a team and to the league as well.”
And he says everything clicked against the Hoppers, especially as the team had quite a lot to play for with it being Jeremy Sloan’s 100th match for the club.
“Sloany’s been at Goorambat for five or six years,” Gladstone said.
“After a few years off, he’s returned to footy this year.
“He adds a lot of experience and maturity to our backline.
“He’s a level head and always hits hard.”
Crucial to the win was Tom Williams and James Webb, with Williams booting seven goals and Webb named best on ground for the Bats.
“Tom’s a big target down forward for us,” Gladstone said.
“His ability to take contested marks is unmatched and he’s a standout for the team.
“And Webb’s leadership has gone up leaps and bounds.
“His run of half-back goes a long way and he always stands up on the occasion.”
The additional four points sees Goorambat move up into 10th place above Moyhu and North Wangaratta, ahead of its final match of the season against rivals Benalla All Blacks this Saturday.
