Luckily this week's floods did not reach the level of those in 1921 with the biggest affect on the Rose City being the closure of the stock bridge, and lakeside walking track.
Water levels had been rising during the weekend, however, flood warnings were initially only for the surrounding area.
However, by Sunday authorities knew the Broken River was expected to break its banks, and a warning was issued.
Benalla Rural City Council moved quickly to close the stock bridge, and tracks around Lake Benalla.
Luckily this flooding was only minor and on Monday morning the biggest affect seemed to be that it drew a good percentage of the Rose City's photographers down to try and catch that one-in-a-million shot.
Despite water levels being relatively low, Victoria State Emergency Service released information reminding people to be cautious.
That advice, which remains relevant should the water rise again, included:
What you should do:
● Be prepared to act if your situation changes.
● You should stay informed by listening to emergency broadcasters and monitoring warnings.
● Contact family members and neighbours to ensure they are aware of the situation.
● Farmers should consider moving livestock and machinery to higher ground.
● Floodwater is dangerous - never drive, walk or ride through floodwater.
